CREATING THEATRE BODY FIRST

"Through devising and directing, I want to create a physical language for the actors that an audience
can relate to; one that enables and enhances both character and narrative. To do this I draw from my
practical experience in Acting, Music, Dance, Acrobalance, Mime, Commedia Dell’Arte and
Bouffon. I also enjoy creating the odd bit of grand spectacle." - Me whilst writing this.

I first dipped my toe into directing movement whilst at University, although it was mostly by accident. It started with taking a very active role in devising with guidance from visiting Choreographers and resulted in me begrudgingly becoming my flatmate's assistant Choreographer for his degree piece. I also took a little time out in the middle to work as Movement Director on Some Kind of Theatre's 'The Tempest' just to prove that the idea of Directing was starting to get it's hooks into me.

Having done all of this work as a Movement Director, I got my first shot at Directing a piece of Theatre was at the 2018 Carlisle Fringe where I directed a piece of satire titled '#LikeForLike', a piece of new writing by Clare Louise Roberts.

I have since worked as a Director and Movement Director for shows both great and small including for Some Kind of Theatre, Bard in the Botanics and Scottish Opera.
